GHD/EMPHNET Participates in Strategic Dialogue on Interdisciplinary Global Health Research in the MENA Region
Canada’s International Development Research Center (IDRC), in collaboration with the Global Health Institute at the American University of Beirut (AUB), held a one-day meeting on November 3, 2018, at the University in Lebanon, on the future of interdisciplinary global health research in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Researchers, policy makers, and implementers from across the region attended this meeting.
In their discussions, participants focused on the priority aspects of global health research for development in vulnerable settings within the MENA region. Specifically, discussions focused on youth and women and the various factors that impede this demographic’s right to health. Furthermore, participants also discussed ways to create and employ high quality data for health system planning, measurement, and action.
Afterwards, participants explored ways to put these priorities into operation in vulnerable and conflict-afflicted settings. Participants discussed relevant complexities, research gap areas, and collaborative research partnerships.
As an outcome of this meeting, participants agreed on the components of research for development through interdisciplinary global health research. Moreover, participants also explored opportunities for engaging in the future to move forward in this regard.
