GHD|EMPHNET supports national efforts for strengthening the health system in Pakistan, collaborating with various partners to enhance disease control, emergency management, and field epidemiology.
GHD|EMPHNET has supported the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) on enhancing the surveillance of brucellosis in Pakistan. Furthermore, between 2018-2019, GHD|EMPHNET collaborated with the National Institute of Health worked on improving global health security by supporting the implementation of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) that aims at preventing avoidable epidemics and reducing the likelihood of outbreaks including natural, accidental, or intentional; early detection of threats; and responding rapidly and effectively to biological threats of international concern.
GHD|EMPHNET has collaborated with the NIH on a series of activities with the purpose of building capacities within the Public Health Emergency Operations Center (PHEOC). These activities included training workshops on the Incident Command Management System (ICMS) to reinforce the capacities of public health professionals from Islamabad and Karachi on the basic principles and functions of ICMS during outbreaks and other health emergencies. In collaboration with GHD|EMPHNET, the NIH also created a team of trainers from health professionals and media staff members at the NIH and preventive health departments at provincial level on risk communication during outbreaks and other health emergencies.
As regional network for Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs), GHD|EMPHNET also supports the Pakistan Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Program (FELTP) by facilitating professional and academic opportunities for residents and graduates.
In 2020, GHD|EMPHNET initiated the communication with Pakistan MoH to support the operationalizing of routine immunization micro-plans in selected regions. The support will be providing between 2020-2021 with to aim to support the country reaching optimal delivery of the equitable immunization services at sub-national level.
