GHD/EMPHNET Selected for a New Term on GOARN’s Steering Committee
GHD/EMPHNET, represented by its Executive Director Dr. Mohannad Al-Nsour, was recently selected to continue to be a member of the Steering Committee (SCOM) of the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN). GOARN’s SCOM provides guidance, prioritizes and supports activities, and engages new efforts in the network through its key working areas, including outbreak response training, public health rapid response, alert and risk assessment, research response, and governance.
The selection process of the new SCOM was based on an independent external evaluation of applications received from GOARN’s partner institutions to serve on the committee. The external evaluation took into account the institutional profile, type and capacity of technical areas, and geographic representation of partners.
GHD/EMPHNET has been contributing to the Network since 2014 and will continue to do so through the recently established Public Health Emergency Management Center (PHEMC). PHEMC is committed to supporting countries of the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) in strengthening its emergency management and will continue to coordinate with relevant partners for better management.
Selected members of the new committee will support the development and operations of the SCOM for the next four years while focusing on the monitoring and evaluation of the network diverse activities. The next committee meeting will be held in Geneva, Switzerland on December 13-14, 2018, and will initiate the new terms’ work.
