Disease Control and Prevention

In contribution to global health security, EMPHNET supports countries in reducing the burden of infectious diseases. EMPHNET aims to strengthen country capacities in the detection of and response to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases through coordinating efforts, identifying risks, raising awareness, building capacities, and conducting research. In line with this aim, a team of epidemiologists, laboratorians, veterinarians, and biosafety experts work with countries in strengthening laboratory capacities in laboratory-based surveillance and detection of diseases-with focus on zoonotic diseases, and biorisk management.

Contributions

Promoting biorisk management through training of laboratory workers on biosafety and biosecurity best practices

Building capacities in the surveillance, diagnosis, and control of zoonotic diseases

Joining global and regional efforts in the fight against antimicrobial resistance

Supporting the elimination of major neglected tropical diseases and advocating for the integration of their prevention and control into other public health interventions

Building capacities of public health workers in infection prevention and control practices
