Join the STOP Transmission of Polio Program

Application Start Date: May 1, 2015 Application End Date: May 31, 2015 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)’s Global Immunization Division’s Stop the Transmission of Polio (STOP) program was created in 1999 as part of the CDC’s efforts to assist the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI). Since then, STOP has trained and deployed 45 teams –comprised of more than 2,000 volunteers – to 70 countries around the world. STOP is recruiting qualified Communication staff to participate in STOP teams. Effective program communication and social mobilization are important components of the polio eradication initiative. STOP communication participants will assist WHO, UNICEF, and ministries of health by: · Providing social mobilization and communication technical expertise at all levels and support to all polio eradication stakeholders to galvanize community demand for child immunization and acceptance of the polio vaccine. · Undertaking field trips, meetings with influential persons and assessments to develop and implement national and sub-national social mobilization and communication plans. · Assessing ground situations to develop appropriate messages and materials for community members, influential persons, healthcare providers, vaccinators and the media and support dissemination of the same. · Serving on committees and forums to ensure effective coordination among various communications partners. · Supporting communication personnel at national and local levels to develop, test and implement strategies and plans for social mobilization and communication. · Sharing of expertise, information and experience and capacity building of national colleagues and partners for sustainable and community owned and driven polio eradication program. · Supporting government and partners in advocacy, documentation, monitoring and evaluation, management and dissemination. Requirements STOP communication participants must be extremely flexible self-starters who work well under difficult conditions with people of different cultures. Qualified applicants have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and are fluent in English, French, Portuguese, Hausa or Arabic.
