Deadline for Applicants is April 1, 2016 Apply Online Here  The American University of Beirut (AUB) in partnership with The MasterCard Foundation in Canada is announcing full scholarships for Master’s degrees at AUB for the academic year 2016-2017. This scholarship is open only to (i) nationals of Lebanon or (ii) refugees and displaced persons living in Lebanon or (iii) nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa. The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program at AUB aims to prepare young people to be agents of change in their communities, countries, and regions. Degree Program Duration Most Master’s degree programs at AUB require 2 years to complete on a full-time basis. Only full-time students are eligible for this scholarship. Accepted students whose English language proficiency does not meet AUB requirements might require  1 additional semester to complete the degree (for a total of 2.5 years). Eligibility and Admission Criteria Scholarships under this program are available to students who: (i) Are academically promising. (ii) Are financially disadvantaged. (iii) Have leadership skills. (iv) Have a desire to give back and go back to serve their communities. (v) Are nationals of Sub-Saharan Africa or Lebanese or non-Lebanese living in Lebanon. Criteria for Selecting Scholarship Students • High financial need. • Good academic standing during undergraduate degree. • Willingness to attend all the additional learning experiences (in addition to degree-related courses and experiences) required of this scholarship. • Relevance of applicant’s experience to the field of interest. • Previous employment, voluntary work or research experience in field of interest in the home country.  Notes • Priority will be given to candidates who are at an early stage of their careers. • The program will admit an equal number of men and women. • Applicants from Africa must have already completed a Bachelor’s degree and must be residents of an African country. • Applicants from Lebanon must have already completed a Bachelor’s degree and can be Lebanese citizens or refugees from neighboring countries currently living in Lebanon. AUB Admission Requirements (i) Good academic record in undergraduate education (and graduate education where relevant) in any discipline relevant to the program of interest and hold a Bachelor’s degree from AUB, or an equivalent degree from another recognized institution, with a cumulative average of at least 75 and an average of at least 80 or its equivalent in the major field of study. (ii) Proficiency in English demonstrated by passing the University English Entrance Examination (EEE), or by achieving the minimum required score for TOEFL examination or IELTS. What the Scholarship Covers • Full-time tuition for two or two-and-a-half years, including enrolment in an English language course over a full semester for a limited number of students who do not meet the required English score on TOEFL or IELTS. • Monthly basic stipend to cover food costs for one person. • Medical insurance covering basic preventive health care visits as well as basic treatment of illness. • Accommodation in AUB dorms or equivalent cost. • Course-related books, or other requirements, as well as a laptop computer. • Round trip air travel from country of residence/nationality for students from Sub-Saharan Africa. Timeline • Deadline for students’ application for scholarships supported by the program: April 1, 2016 • AUB notifies students of admission acceptance: May 27, 2016 • Students notify AUB of their acceptance of the scholarship: June 10, 2016 • Students confirm their acceptance of the scholarship: June 27, 2016 • Students enroll at AUB: August 29, 2016 • Accepted students are expected to start their enrolment in Fall 2016-17.
