People’s University Launches Three Online Courses
April 18, 2016

People’s Open Access Education Initiative (People’s-uni) has launched three new online courses: Exercise and Health: This resource is designed to help healthcare professionals understand the size of the problem of physical inactivity in populations globally, the role of physical inactivity in the causation of a number of conditions and the benefits of exercise in treatment and prevention. The resource encourages those who access the course to perform and evaluate interventions to increase physical activity in their settings. Medical Ethics: The course covers key constituent parts of medical ethics. It is suitable for any healthcare professional wanting to acquire a basic grounding in the subject. The course avoids jargon, and it generally has a practical bias; while there is a theoretical underpinning to the course, it is not simply about theory. Human Rights and Public Health: This course presents a general introduction to the subject of Human Rights in Public Health, and it provides examples of areas where the relationship is particularly important or vulnerable - humanitarian crises, reproductive health, universal health care and the provision of health services. The course also introduces some of the legal aspects of Human Rights. These courses are part of the initiative’s open online courses which cover topics in Global Health. The initiative’s courses are available free and can be accessed by anyone. They are short and designed for self-study. Most courses offer a certificate.
