EMPHNET Becomes a Member of the Global Alliance for Tobacco Control Community

Tobacco use, a leading preventable cause of death worldwide, continues to wreak havoc on public health, economic stability, and environmental sustainability. Despite the heightened global awareness of its detrimental effects, the challenge of tobacco addiction endures, affecting both smokers and non-smokers through exposure to secondhand smoke.

 

In a significant stride towards a tobacco-free world, EMPHNET became a Network member at The Global Alliance for Tobacco Control (GATC) community. The GATC is a network of civil society actors dedicated to reducing the health, social, economic, and environmental impacts of tobacco. It is the only global network dedicated solely to implementing the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control and it serves as the leading voice of civil society in strengthening and accelerating progress.

 

EMPHNET’s role in the fight is further showcased through its involvement in the proactive United Against Tobacco and COVID (UATC) campaign, launched in 2022. The campaign has successfully extended its reach to an impressive audience of approximately 50 million people across Egypt, Jordan, Iraq, and Palestine. Today, it remains steadfast in its advocacy for public health and the enforcement of health laws, with resources available in both English and Arabic on its website. By becoming a part of GATC, EMPHNET not only strengthens its commitment to combating tobacco use but it also enhances its influence within a global framework dedicated to making a tobacco-free world a reality.
