EMPHNET Opens New Country Office in Yemen

EMPHNET proudly announced the official opening of its new Country Office in Aden, Yemen. The inauguration ceremony was led by His Excellency Dr. Qasem Mohammed Buhaibeh, Minister of Public Health and Population, in the presence of Dr. Ali Ahmed Al-Walidi, Deputy Minister for Primary Health Care, alongside distinguished health leaders, academics, and officials.

 

The event was also attended by Professor Yousef Khader, Director of EMPHNET’s Center of Excellence for Applied Epidemiology (CEAE), who highlighted the strategic importance of this step. “The opening of EMPHNET’s office in Aden marks a milestone in our longstanding collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Population. It provides a platform for strengthening training, research, and capacity-building in field epidemiology,” he stated.

 

Minister Dr. Qasem Buhaibeh emphasized that the new office represents a qualitative leap forward in enhancing the partnership between the Ministry and EMPHNET. He praised EMPHNET’s tangible contributions in building the capacities of Yemen’s health workforce and expressed confidence that the Aden office would expand technical cooperation and drive it toward new levels of excellence.

 

The new office will play a pivotal role in advancing health programs in Yemen, with a particular focus on training, building local capacities in field epidemiology, and supporting disease surveillance and response. It will also work on strengthening collaboration with NGOs, universities, and other key stakeholders to foster a more coordinated and impactful public health response.

 

Also present at the inauguration were Professor Huda Basaleem, Vice President of Aden University for Academic Affairs; Mr. Abdulnasser Al-Nimair, Director of the Minister’s Office; Dr. Abdulrahman Saleh, Director of the Health Office in Taiz; Dr. Faiz Al-Wuhaishi, Director of the Health Office in Al-Bayda; and Dr. Mohammed Abu Khudair, EMPHNET’s Medical Epidemiologist, among other health professionals and stakeholders.

 

This milestone reflects EMPHNET’s continued commitment to supporting Yemen’s health system, expanding collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and Population, and working toward a healthier future for communities across the country.

 

Since 2009, EMPHNET has built a strong and enduring partnership with Yemen’s Ministry of Public Health and Population. EMPHNET has supported the establishment of the country's Field Epidemiology Training Program and subsequently extended supporting to maintaining immunization and empowering community response during the ongoing emergency, while also supporting other efforts contributing to health security through technical assistance and other capacity building efforts.
