Disease Control and Prevention

EMPHNET plays a crucial role in advancing global health security by supporting countries in reducing the burden of infectious diseases. It focuses on strengthening national capacities for detecting and responding to emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases through coordinated efforts, risk identification, community awareness, capacity building, and research. To achieve this, we at EMPHNET work closely with countries to strengthen laboratory capabilities, focusing on laboratory-based surveillance and disease detection, with a special emphasis on zoonotic diseases and biorisk management. Our team of epidemiologists, laboratorians, veterinarians, and biosafety experts leads these efforts to ensure effective collaboration and impact.

Our contributions include participation in international platforms and working groups, such as the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform and the World Federation of Public Health Associations Environmental Health (WFPHA EH) working group. Additionally, we participated in the GOARN Field Simulation Exercise as validators for the Rapid Response Mobile Laboratories (RRML), where we evaluated the deployment process, reviewed documentation, and assessed the RRMLs against WHO standards, providing feedback to refine future operations.
