GHD|EMPHNET considers the protection and promotion of the health of women, children, adolescents, and elderly persons living in the Eastern Mediterranean Region where they are at most risk of having unaddressed health needs arising from conflict and complex emergencies affecting the region. Targeting these groups has a sustainable impact on population health status. After all, promoting healthy lifestyles in childhood and adolescence protects health later in life, and ensuring the well-being of women directly impacts the lives of their families and the surrounding community. Also, addressing the health needs of the elderly supports a group which is underserved by health systems across the region.

Under the Health Promotion and Protection Program, GHD|EMPHNET focused efforts on refugee health, maternal health, child health, reproductive health, and management of non-communicable diseases especially among vulnerable communities.

Contributions

Promoting Refugee Health

Contributing to improving the quality of neonatal care in Zaatari and Azraq camps for Syrian refugees in Jordan by conducting neonatal death and stillbirth audits and providing evidence to prioritize the actions needed

Implementing Jordan’s Maternal Mortality Surveillance Response system to eliminate preventable maternal mortalities by obtaining and using information on each maternal death to guide public health actions

Working in twenty-five primary health care centers to improve hypertension and diabetes management in Northern Jordan in Irbid and Mafraq
