One Health

EMPHNET has consistently integrated the One Health approach and its principles across its initiatives, recognizing the interdependence between human, animal, and environmental health. Through collaboration with global, regional, and national partners, we address critical public health challenges in the Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) and other priority areas. In alignment with our strategic objectives, we develop guiding documents and frameworks that facilitate the integration of One Health principles into health programs. We also lead capacity-building efforts by creating tailored training programs for One Health professionals and embedding One Health into Field Epidemiology Training Programs (FETPs).

Additionally, we work to enhance the diagnosis and surveillance of zoonotic diseases, recognizing their significant impact on both human and animal populations. Our support extends to strengthening laboratory-based surveillance systems, which are critical for early detection and response. A major focus of our efforts also includes combating Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), where we advocate and support the implementation of comprehensive strategies aimed at fighting AMR.

EMPHNET supports efforts in environmental health and climate change by working on establishing environmental surveillance systems, such as procedures for pathogens like Burkholderia pseudomallei in Bangladesh. As a member of the Environmental Health Working Group (EHWG) of the World Federation of Public Health Associations (WFPHA), EMPHNET engages in global knowledge exchange and networking.
