With the support from the Biosecurity Engagement Program (BEP), GHD|EMPHNET helped establish the Veterinary Field Epidemiology Training Program in Bangladesh. This two-year program partnered with Department of Livestock Services and Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) to build the country’s veterinarian workforce in outbreak response and surveillance of potentially dangerous zoonotic pathogens and to promote the use of the One Health Approach to address human, animal, and environmental health issues. The need to address animal health in the country is essential to prevent, detect and respond to zoonotic diseases and Emerging Infectious Diseases. The program’s first cohort is currently in session and is working on providing epidemiological and population health services for animal and public health while participating in a career track Master program in CVASU.

Achievements

While the program is still new, its residents are engaging in outbreak investigation, surveillance evaluation, and data driven decision-making processes.
