EMPHNET, CDC and Jordan MoH Organize Series of Public Emergency Management Workshops

In collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health (MoH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), EMPHNET organized two workshops during the last two weeks of July in Amman. These workshops focused on strengthening the capabilities of the national public health workforce in responding to public health emergencies at both the local and regional levels.

 

Public Emergency Management Workshops (4)The first workshop in this series focused on public health emergency management. It trained focal persons in the skills needed to prepare for regional epidemics and other health-related emergencies.

 

GQ3B5614The workshop included facilitators from the MoH, the National Center for Security Crisis Management, the Jordanian Armed Forces, and EMPHNET who presented sessions on crisis management, emergency management, and MoH Emergency Operations Center functions. Other relevant discussions focused on risk assessment, multi-agency coordination, the functions of rapid response teams, and complex incidents management. Twenty-six public health emergency focal persons from MoH health directorates throughout the Kingdom were in attendance.

 

Series of Public Emergency Management WorkshopsThe second workshop in the series focused on supporting the national hospital emergency management system. Responding to the increasing health risks associated with disasters originating in neighboring countries and the region at large, its sessions were designed for focal persons from the country’s public hospitals.

 

Series of Public Emergency Management WorkshopsSessions of the second workshop were also facilitated by the MoH, the National Center for Security Crisis Management, the Jordan Armed Forces, and EMPHNET. Sessions included management systems in Jordan, intra-hospital emergencies, hospital safety assessments, and hospital emergency plans. Additionally, health crisis management, mass causality management, multi-agency coordination, and the functions of the MoH Emergency Operations Center were also included in the second workshop’s program. Twenty-seven focal persons representing public hospitals throughout the Kingdom participated in the second workshop.

 

Series of Public Emergency Management Workshops These workshops fall in-line with EMPHNET’s goals to strengthen its position as the main source of information and reference for pressing public health issues affecting the Eastern Mediterranean Region. These workshops also reinforce the organization’s belief in the power of capacity building as a main force leading to better public health across regional communities.
