EMPHNET, I-FETP Hold Second National Conference for the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program

EMPHNET, in partnership with the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program (I-FETP), the Iraq Ministry of Health, and the Baghdad College of Medicine, held the Second National Conference for the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program between March 23 and 24, 2016 in Baghdad, Iraq.

 

The event presented an opportunity for knowledge exchange among the region’s field epidemiologists and public health professionals. The conference also witnessed the graduation ceremony of the 4th cohort of the I-FETP.

 

 

EMPHNET, I-FETP Hold Second National Conference for the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program

The conference was attended by the General Director of Public Health in the ministry, Dr. Ihsan Jaffar; EMPHNET’s Executive Director, Dr. Mohannad Al Nsour; representatives from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the I-FETP Executive Director, Dr. Qahtan AL-Salihi; the I-FETP Technical Advisor, Dr. Faris Lami; and public health officials.

 

 

EMPHNET, I-FETP Hold Second National Conference for the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program

Field epidemiologists and public health professionals from Iraq presented their papers at the conference. Their topics covered a range of issues pertaining to the state of health in Iraq. These included applied epidemiology for communicable and non-communicable diseases; injury surveillance; nutrition and child health; as well as other public health issues.

 

 

EMPHNET, I-FETP Hold Second National Conference for the Iraq Field Epidemiology Training Program

“Applied Epidemiology, Today’s Challenges and Tomorrow’s Horizons” was the theme of this year’s conference. The theme aptly articulated the contributions of the I-FETP residents and graduates to the health of the Iraqi public, especially in light of the political and health challenges facing the country.
