EMPHNET Organizes Workshop with Jordan’s Human Rights Office

EMPHNET organized a two-day workshop with the Jordanian Prime Ministry’s Human Rights Office between May 11 and 13, 2016 at the Dead Sea, Jordan. The purpose of the workshop was to discuss potentials for cooperation between EMPHNET and the Human Rights Office.

 

The event was attended by the Government Coordinator for Human Rights’ Office, Mr. Basel Tarawneh; members of the Follow-up Committee of Human Rights Recommendations; EMPHNET’s Executive Director, Dr. Mohannad Al-Nsour; and representatives of other civil society organizations.

 

At the workshop, possible means of cooperation between EMPHNET and the Human Rights Office were discussed, particularly in relation to health rights for children and the elderly. Plans were also made for future suggestions of collaboration at later stages.

 

Dr. Al-Nsour communicated to the workshop’s participants EMPHNET’s public health programs which are implemented in Jordan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Dr. Al-Nsour also highlighted EMPHNET’s work across the country and the region in the areas of communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, community health, and refugee health.

 

Mr. Tarawneh and the committee members highlighted the Office’s role in overseeing the implementation of the 2016-2025 Comprehensive National Plan on Human Rights. They also noted that one of the plan’s objectives is to promote the participation of civil society institutions in public affairs.

 

The National Plan on Human Rights is a comprehensive strategy that addresses the main aspects related to human rights. The plan covers civil, political, economic and cultural rights in addition to the rights of the vulnerable such as the elderly, children, and women.
