EMPHNET Participates in MED-HEALTH Study Visit The Mediterranean Public Health Alliance (MED-HEALTH) brings together a team of thirteen partners from public universities, non-governmental and health organizations to form a multifaceted and complementary consortium. EMPHNET is a member of this consortium that includes partner organizations from Palestine, Jordan, Tunisia, Belgium, Spain and United Kingdom. Together, these partner organizations work to build up the competencies South Mediterranean Higher Education Institution (HEI)  in Public Health Management. In doing so, they contribute to the improvement of public health performance, employment and development perspectives for the region. On October 3, 2016, EMPHNET participated in a three-day meeting and study visit to Université Libre de Bruxelle (ULB) in Brussels, Belgium to assess and analyze existing public health management and practice needs as well as to enhance  the capacities of HEI's Mediterranean partners . The aim of this visit was to bring together partners to benchmark the good practices in developing the public health management master’s program and enhance the capacities of the Mediterranean partners. During the meeting, partner organizations reviewed the plan of the project and the first year project's achievements. Partner organizations were also introduced to the Master's program of the Brussels School of Public Health and made a site visit to the ULB facilities. The meeting also focused on developing and discussing the intended learning objectives (ILOs) for the suggested Master’s program and the ILOs for the five core courses agreed on as a result of the needs assessment report drafted earlier. The five core suggested courses were: 1. Health Services Management 2. Essential Issues in Public Health Policy 3. Strategic Management and Commissioning 4. Health, Culture and Society 5. Contextual factors and Health information systems To develop the Public Health Management Master’s Program, participants analyzed existing public health practices and needs within the targeted region. This was followed by discussing the different aspects of the proposed program structure in terms of core and elective content, curricula development, modularization; students’ mobility and recognition of degree qualifications and procedures needed for the establishment of joint degree program. By the end of the visit, MED-HEALTH, partners agreed on strategies needed to promote curriculum development in their own universities, and they prepared a unified structure for the core courses of the suggested Master Degree in Public Health Management. Finally, they presented their vision for a suggested Master’s program for each country represented in the alliance.                                                          ‘This project is co-funded by the European Union.
