Training Session Promotes Future Collaborations between Guinean MoH and EMPHNET

EMPHNET conducted a training course titled “Promoting Cradle to Grave Security of Biological Samples” in Casablanca, Morocco last March. The event was attended by laboratory specialists from Guinea. Following the training, participants returned to their respective country, where they were invited to a National Laboratory Stakeholder Meeting. During the meeting, they were asked to present what they have learned at the training conducted by EMPHNET.

 

Prior to conducting the training, there was a degree of uncertainty regarding the language to be used. Communication with the Guinean Ministry of Health is in French and the training course was conducted in both English and French.

 

To overcome this challenge, EMPHNET provided translation services for all the requested material for the training. This enabled the team from Guinea to give the presentation to the ministry of health, reflecting what they had learned. The meeting led to discussions of having a regional training in Guinea for laboratory personnel, and this development opened the door for further collaborations between Guinea MoH and EMPHNET. To solidify this opportunity further, a concept note was developed by the presenters. This note was sent to the Biosafety Engagement Program (BEP) for support asking for additional training.

 

From this initiative, EMPHNET was able to establish a relationship with Guinean MoH and to established presence in the laboratory stakeholder meeting. The feedback reflected extremely well on EMPHNET. The Guinean Ministry of Health and Laboratory stakeholders could not have been happier. They were extremely pleased with the level of training provided to the laboratory personnel.

 

The next step would be to train eight to ten Guinean participants on responsible research practices and bioethics where participants will be selected based on level of improvement as indicated in pre and post examinations. EMPHNET is also planning on providing training & IATA certification. Other steps may include future collaborations.
