Yemen Field Epidemiology Program Celebrates Graduation of its Second Cohort

The Yemen Field Epidemiology Training Program (Y-FETP) celebrated the graduation of its second Cohort on February 29, 2016. The graduation ceremony was held on the sidelines of the Second National Yemen Field Epidemiology Training Program Conference which was hosted in Sana’a, Yemen.

 

Holding the theme “Facing Yemen’s Public Health Challenges Through Strengthening Field Epidemiology”, the conference provided the ideal platform for the sharing of success and knowledge amongst its participents. The opening ceremony was attended by the Yemen Minister of Public Health and Population H.E. Dr. Ghazi Ismail, WHO Representative Dr. Shadoul Ahmad, Y-FETP Representative Dr. Eshrak Alfalahi ML Al Ahmad and Y-FETP Director Dr. Abdulhakem Al Kohlani. Graduation proceedings were headed by Dr. Abdulwahed Al Serouri who recognized the achievements of eight FETP graduates, commemorating the successful completion of their two-year residency. These graduates will move on to join previous graduates in their efforts to strengthen public health capacity at central and governorate levels throughout the country.

 

The conference also saw presentations on road traffic injuries, malnutrition, knowledge and practice of public health centers, knowledge and practice of biosafety amongst staff working in laboratories, amongst other pressing topics. From another angle, the event also saw the launch of the Arabic version of the Y-FETP website with the English version still under construction.

 

It is worth noting that this ceremony presents a milestone for the Y-FETP residents, especially in light of the challenges they face in Yemen today.
