GHD/EMPHNET Participates in GOARN Training Partners’ Workshop

Global Health Development (GHD), represented by EMPHNET, participated in the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) Training Partners’ Workshop conducted February 13-14, 2017, at Public Health England in London, UK. Participants also included other GOARN partners representing various universities, public health networks, and governmental agencies from Africa, Europe, and the US. The purposes of the workshop were to discuss the GOARN Outbreak Response Scenario Training, to learn more about relevant priorities of partners, and to agree on future collaboration for the development of the training program. The workshop started off with an introduction about GOARN 2.0, an initiative created to advance GOARN by expanding the network’s operational procedures, engaging partners and stakeholders, and evolving GOARN’s training program in outbreak response. This overview also detailed how the initiative will be implemented in line with the WHO reform. The workshop also featured a presentation on the GOARN Outbreak Response Scenario Training, focusing on the future role of partners by discussing the proposed framework for franchising the GOARN training program. In individual presentations, participating partners discussed their interests, expectations, and priority areas of contribution to the training program. EMPHNET participated in a panel, discussing the accreditation of the GOARN training packages and explored the ways in which GOARN training courses could or should be accredited. GHD| EMPHNET’s representative presented EMPHNET’s training experience and voiced interest in expanding GHD| EMPHNET’s Roster of Experts by supporting and mobilizing well-trained rapid response team members. The representative also explored ways to enhance the GOARN Competency Model for team member and team leader deployees, utilize available packages and assessment tools, and employ the new GOARN Knowledge Platform in communications.
