EMPHNET Collaborates with Jordan Breast Cancer Program to Raise Awareness About the Benefits of Early Breast Cancer Detection within Both Its Team and the Community

The Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) joined forces with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation/ Jordan Breast Cancer Program, to conduct an awareness lecture on the benefits of early breast cancer detection. This session was attended by 35 members of the Landmark Hotel Staff.

 

Every year, breast cancer organizations and foundations around the world celebrate the international month of breast cancer awareness. Held in line with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation/ Jordan Breast Cancer Program’s October nationwide campaign to raise awareness on the benefits of early detection, this session’s agenda included a presentation highlighting the different stages of breast cancer, its treatment, and preventative measures. The presentation was given by Dr. Alia Khair from KHCF. Participants also listened to a personal account given by a breast cancer survivor who shared her candid experience on how she survived breast cancer, while sharing her message of hope that early detection is the way forward and the faster route for recovering. She also stressed the importance of conducting periodic checkups and adopting healthier lifestyle practices to reduce the prevalence of breast cancer.

 

This event was held as part of an extensive campaign conducted by EMPHNET to promote Breast Cancer Awareness both within its team and the community at large. Prior to this session, the organization educated its employees on the benefits of early detection in a similar session it held at its offices last Thursday, October 25, 2018.

 

EMPHNET also launched an initiative where it encouraged its employees to engage in a poster competition through which they researched the topic further and created their own posters on the topic. Furthermore, the team members of EMPHNET did their own fundraising food sale to raise funds for the benefit of Breast Cancer Patients in need of treatment but who are of limited means. The organization also presented the women on its team with an opportunity to get tested free of charge.

 

This event was held in line with EMPHNET’s mission to contribute to securing better health for the people of the Eastern Mediterranean Region and is one of many initiatives it holds in honor of this mission.
