EMPHNET Supports Refresher Training on Brucella for Clinicians and Laboratorians at Comprehensive Health Centers (CHCs) in East Amman

In close collaboration with the Jordan Ministry of Health (MoH), the Jordan Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), and the Royal Medical Services (RMS), EMPHNET, is implementing a project entitled “Evaluating the impact of enhanced laboratory-based surveillance of animal and human Brucellosis in three areas of Jordan,” in order to address the under-reporting of animal and human brucellosis cases in Jordan that primarily is due to a lack of surveillance and diagnostic tools.

 

The overall goal of the project is to measure the impact of active laboratory-based surveillance on the understanding of brucellosis in East Amman, Mafraq and Karak, Jordan.

 

As part of the project's training activities, EMPHNET conducted a refresher training for clinicians and laboratorians working at Comprehensive Health Care Centers (CHC’s) in East Amman aiming to increase the knowledge and awareness on brucellosis in humans, case enrollment, and patient referral for laboratory testing and treatment.

 

The training focused on Brucella disease burden for humans and animasl, signs and symptoms, case detection and referral, specimen collection, testing using the Rose Bengal test. It was conducted in nine CHC’s: Sahab, Krabat Alsooq, Aljeeza, Almouqabalain, Almowakar, AbuAlanda, AlQwaismeh, Ohoud, and Netel.

 

Clinicians and laboratories showed great interest in the activity and stressed on the importance of Brucella disease as East Amman is considered one of the endemic areas in Jordan, reporting several cases each year.

 

During the training, and in order to increase the awareness of the public, posters and brochures were distributed in CHC’s.

 

EMPHNET will continue in conducting the same training session in East Amman through targeting clinicians and laboratorians who are working a the King Hussein Medical Center/ Royal Medical Services and Jameel Al Totangi Hospital.
