Iraq Ministry of Health Conducts Training on Routine Immunization Supportive Supervision

To strengthen the performance of routine immunization activities and to enhance the routine immunization’s supportive supervision in the country, the Iraqi Ministry of Health (MoH) conducted a training of trainers (ToT) for over 20 managers and supervisors of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). These managers supervisors are working at the national and provincial levels. One participant came from each province and two participants from the high-risk provinces: Anbar, Ninewa, and Salah Uddin.

 

Supported by GHD| EMPHNET, the training took place in Baghdad between May 6 and 8, 2018. The goal of this training was to form a core set of well-trained trainers to improve immunization service quality. These master trainers will later train the district-level EPI focal points.

 

During sessions facilitated by experts from GHD| EMPHNET and the MoH, the participants gained knowledge and skills in areas relevant to establishing supportive supervisory system and planning for supervisory visits. They also learned about preparing supervisory visit reports and applying and using the EPI supervisory check lists.

 

As part of the training’s agenda, participants also went on a field visit to three health centers in Rasafah, Baghdad. The purpose of the field visit was to give the participants the opportunity to practice supportive supervision, examine the newly updated supervisory check lists, and write their supervisory visit reports. At the end of this visit, the final supervisory check lists and reports were prepared to be sent and approved by the higher authority.
