EMPHNET Supports Free Medical Day in Ghor Al Safi, Jordan

EMPHNET recently collaborated with the King Hussein Cancer Center, the Jordan Ministry of Health (MoH), the Jordanian Society for the Care of Diabetes, Al-Balqa Applied University, and the Department of Pharmacy at Petra University in organizing a community outreach activity. This was a free medical day aimed at raising awareness on non-communicable diseases in the underserved rural area of Ghor Al-Safi, Jordan. The activity focused on women’s health, diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular health, and use of antibiotics.

 

The free medical day took place on May 3, 2019, at Ghor Al-Safi Primary Health Care Center where doctors, assisted by nurses, conducted medical examinations/ tests on men and women visiting the clinic for the day. The targeted audience was the local population of Ghor Al-Safi of all age groups, and examinations and tests were for diabetes, hypertension, and breast cancer (clinical examination).

 

Most of the recipients of the above services participated in a questionnaire, developed by EMPHNET, regarding breast cancer awareness. The questionnaire was conducted through trained medical students from Al-Balqa Applied University.

 

In one-on-one sessions, nurses also explained to patients concepts like essential self-care related to women’s health, cardiovascular health, hypertension, diabetes, and the proper use of antibiotics.

 

The activity was concluded by providing the patients with vouchers for free follow-up mammogram tests as well as health promotion brochures and booklets on non-communicable diseases.
