First Steering Committee Meeting Held for Implementation of the FETP-V in Bangladesh

Supported by GHD/EMPHNET, the Bangladesh Department of Livestock Services (DLS), the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock (MoFL) and One Health Institute (OHI) of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) organized the first steering committee meeting for the Bangladesh Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (FETP-V). The meeting was held on October 27, 2019 at the Emergency Center for Transboundary Emerging Diseases of the Food and Agriculture Organization in Dhaka. As the chairman of the committee, the  Secretary of the MoFL Mr. Raisul Alam Mondal presided the meeting.

 

Members of the committee represent experts from the DLS, the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI), CVASU, USAID, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The members met to approve the FETP-V curriculum, fellow selection criteria, resource planning, and the time line of launchingFETP-V.

 

After welcoming remarks and an introduction given by the Director General of Department for Livestock Services, Prof. Nitish Chandra Debnath elaborated on the background and the rationale for establishing the FETP-V in the country. Prof. Nitish emphasized the program’s potential to contribute  to addressing gaps in veterinary services identified by national and international entities. Prof. Ahasanul Hoque from the CVASU presented the course curriculum, after which a discussion among members took place.

 

The meeting ended with couple of recommendations, including the approval of course curriculum, approval of selection committee, and inclusion of two additional professional development courses within the curriculum.
