International Consultation Meeting Held for FETP-V Curriculum Development in Bangladesh

International Consultation Meeting Held for FETP-V Curriculum Development in Bangladesh July 17, 2019 The Department of Livestock Services (DLS), Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU), and GHD/EMPHNET organized an international consultation at CVASU campus in Chittagong on July 6, 2019.

 

This was a daylong workshop designed to review the draft Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (FETP-V) curriculum prepared by the FETP-V working group in late April 2019. The objective was to seek feedback of international experts with experience in designing and implementing similar programs in south-east Asia.

 

These experts represented Massey University, the Royal Veterinary College, and the University of Queensland. Attendance also included local representatives from the DLS, the International Center for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b), and CVASU.

 

 The workshop was inaugurated with welcoming remarks from Prof. Goutam Buddha Das, the Vice Chancellor of CVASU; Dr. Hiresh Ranjan Bhowmik, the Director General of the DLS; Prof. Mahmudur Rahman, the former Director of Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research; Dr. Joanna McKenzie from Massey University; and Prof. Nitish Debnath, GHD/EMPHNET’s Technical Adviser.

 

Following the welcoming session, the working group members presented a brief on each module, and discussion took place considering the relevance of the contents of each. The discussion also covered the program’s contact and credit hours distribution as well as the program’s assessment and examination systems.

 

The meeting ended with several recommendations relevant to simplifying credit distribution system; dedicating the final semester for research only; merging and adding modules; having final written examinations per each module; and allocating theory and practical marks in proportion with module credit; among other recommendations.

 

This meeting is a part of series of consultations with experts and working group members to develop a country specific curriculum for FETP-V in Bangladesh.
