EMPHNET and UNHCR Solidify their Partnership and Sign a Memorandum of Understanding

EMPHNET and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) solidified their partnership in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 25, 2020. EMPHNET’s Executive Director Dr. Mohannad Al-Nsour signed the agreement on behalf of EMPHNET, while the UNHCR representative in Jordan, Dominik Bartsch, signed the agreement on behalf of UNHCR.

 

This MOU furthers the collaboration between both entities and aims at setting out the terms and conditions for supporting refugee camps in Jordan particularly in COVID-19 response.

 

EMPHNET and UNHCR share a common commitment to the achievement of provision of health services that directly contribute towards the enhancement of refugees’ lives.

 

EMPHNET is committed to contribute to enhanced populations’ health status in the region by promoting capabilities through training in applied epidemiology; improving surveillance
and disease outbreak investigation; partnering and exchanging expertise with associations, institutions, networks and organizations that hold similar views; participating in public health interventions that fulfil needs and meet challenges; and promoting and supporting applied public health research in response to public health challenges and needs.

 

UNHCR is mandated to protect refugees, forcibly displaced communities, and stateless people, and assist in their voluntary repatriation, local integration, or resettlement to a third country.

 

Under these commitments, EMPHNET and UNHCR will continue to work and support the Jordan Ministry of Health in leading the rapid response to COVID-19 outbreak particularly in the refugee camps. The support will be in the form of strengthening rapid response efforts including outbreak investigation, contact tracing, and sample collection, and reporting for COVID-19 in Zaatari and Azraq refugee; training medical healthcare providers on effective infection, prevention and control practices for priority infectious diseases focusing on COVID-19 outbreak; training community health workers on risk communication, health promotion, and community engagement with focus on COVID-19.

 

EMPHNET and UNHCR look forward to working together and coordinating with other operational partners in the refugee camps.
