GHD|EMPHNET Joins the UN in Commemorating its 75th Anniversary

GHD|EMPHNET joins the UN in commemorating its 75th Anniversary and its founding charter, and contributes to “The Global Pandemic” webinar.

 

GHD|EMPHNET represented by its Executive Director, Dr. Mohannad Al Nsour, participated in the first webinar of a series planned around “UN at 75 Facing the Global Pandemic” that took place on December 12, 2020. Dr. Al Nsour, along with other specialists from the United States of America and the United Kingdom, addressed health as one of the affected areas of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human life facing COVID-19 pandemic.

 

In his talk, Dr. Al Nsour discussed the impact of COVID-19 on health and shared his experience reflecting on GHD|EMPHNET’s work with countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region and North Africa. He first briefed the audience about the epidemic situation in the region, highlighting the demographic distribution of COVID-19 and the different vulnerable groups affected. Particular focus was given to the types of strategy and regulations the countries chose to control the pandemic, and communities’ participation throughout. Finally, the presentation tackled the available treatment regimens and expectations of what is coming up, including vaccines.

 

The webinar was a good opportunity for speakers to virtually gather from different parts of the world to shed light on the global situation of the pandemic. It also answered various audience questions on pertinent issues relating to COVID-19 such as the community’s knowledge, practices, attitudes toward the pandemic.
