Maj. Gen. Prof Aamer Ikram is Recognized as TEPHINET’s Most Dedicated Epidemiology & Public Health Chairman for the year 2024

The Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) congratulates Prof Aamer Ikram, for being recognized as TEPHINET’s Most Dedicated Epidemiology and Public Health Chairman for the year 2024.

 

This award is a testament to his long-standing career in public health through which he demonstrated exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and provided remarkable contributions to the field of epidemiology in Pakistan and the Eastern Mediterranean Regin at large. The esteemed recognition serves as a reflection of the profound impact Prof. Ikram made on public health practice as well as the key role he played in empowering aspiring public health professionals.

 

Throughout his career, Prof. Aamer Ikram holds several coveted positions including, Chair of the TEPHINET Advisory Board, and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institutes of Health Pakistan. He served as a member of several esteemed organizations including the Global Council International Vaccine Institute (IVI); the Future Global Health Initiatives; the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives (PIVI); the Strategic Council of Gulf CDC; the International Biosafety & Biosecurity Initiative for Science (IBBIS); the WHO Technical Advisory Group–Biosafety; and he served as Advisor at the International Association of National Public Health Institutes (IANPHI).

 

Prof Aamer Ikram was also the President of the Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Society (MMIDSP); and past Pakistan FETP Director.

 

His areas of focus include epidemiology of infectious disease, health security and global public health, integrated disease surveillance and response, One-Heath, Antimicrobial Resistance and vaccination, and to date he has more than 450 publications.

 

EMPHNET views this recognition as a source of pride for the region and beyond, serving as a steppingstone for even greater accomplishments to come.
