EMPHNET’s Role within the Global Sustainable Preparedness Network (GSPN): A Spotlight on Collective Efforts for Health Emergency Preparedness

Amid today’s evolving global emergencies and the growing need for stronger, more resilient health systems, the Global Sustainable Preparedness Network (GSPN) has emerged as a key global force for advancing health security and emergency preparedness. EMPHNET, as one of the 73 members of GSPN, continues to actively contribute to this global effort, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to health emergency preparedness in the region and beyond.

 

The GSPN was established as part of the implementation of the World Health Assembly’s 2020 resolution (WHA 73.8) on Strengthening Preparedness for Health Emergencies: Implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005). Designed to operationalize this commitment, GSPN serves as a global platform to support countries in building and enhancing health emergency preparedness capacities. It helps strengthen the planning and coordination of long-term preparedness by promoting an inclusive, multisectoral, and sustainable approach to developing the capacities needed for implementing National Action Plans for Health Security (NAPHS). The network also facilitates the exchange of experiences, capabilities, and technical expertise among countries. It further contributes to the advancement of International Health Regulations (IHR)-related activities, supports discussions on the Pandemic Treaty, and helps lay the groundwork for future global health security partnerships.

 

Through this platform, EMPHNET builds on its extensive experience in supporting countries’ efforts to align with the IHR. Over the years, it has contributed to Joint External Evaluation (JEE) missions across various countries, supported the development and reinforcement of multisectoral coordination mechanisms, and played a vital role in strengthening core public health capacities. This ongoing engagement positions EMPHNET to further scale its contributions and expand its role in advancing health security through active participation in such global platforms.
