Between August 4 and 5, 2019, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) conducted the third and last training workshop for the Public Health Empowerment Program – Surveillance for Polio Officers (PHEP- SPO).

This training workshop targeted PHEP-SPO’s fourth cohort participants who are 29 Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI)/Polio officers from 5 states in the country. During this workshop, participants presented their second field assignments in the presence of the PHEP-SPO technical advisor, field supervisors, and facilitators.

Following their presentations, the fourth cohort participants celebrated their graduation in a ceremony attended by Dr. Elsadig Mahjoub, the FMoH Undersecretary representative; Dr. Sawsan Tahir, the Primary Health Care Director; and Dr. Awad Omer, the EPI Director. GHD/EMPHNET’s team members were also in attendance.

In their remarks, FMoH representatives appreciated the role of GHD/EMPHNET in supporting the country through building the capacity of the health workforce. They also expressed their commitment to sustain the PHEP-SPO and their interest in future support from GHD/EMPHNET, particularly in areas relevant to the PHEP-SPO field training.

Building on the success of the PHEP-SPO in Sudan, GHD/EMPHNET will continue to work with the FMoH by lending further support to the PHEP-SPO and by supporting the ministry in other areas to benefit the health of communities across Sudan.
