EMPHNET Holds Introductory Meeting for the Establishment of the Jordan Public Health Forum (JPHF)

In preparation for the launch of the Jordan Public Health Forum (JPHF), the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) held an introductory meeting for the Forum’s Advisory Committee at EMPHNET’s premises in Amman.

The first of its kind in Jordan, the JPHF is expected to foster dialogue amongst stakeholders across the country to address prevailing public health trends and challenges. The JPHF will bring together leading figures, decision makers, and stakeholders from multiple interrelated sectors to collaborate in finding innovative responses to public health matters. The Forum’s Advisory Committee comprises members with vast experience in the field of public health in Jordan, including former ministers of health, decision and policy makers, academics, as well as professionals working in local and international organizations and the private sector.

EMPHNET’s Executive Director, Dr. Mohannad Al Nsour, welcomed the participants in his opening remarks: “This meeting marks an important step towards the establishment of the Forum. As members of the Forum’s Advisory Committee, you will enrich the Forum with your long-standing and valuable expertise in the field of public health in Jordan.” Dr. Al Nsour added that “EMPHNET initiated the JPHF as a vehicle to facilitate open discussions and debate on pertinent public health issues, challenges, concerns, and priorities, contributing towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Following an introduction about the Forum’s rationale, participants engaged in discussions related to the Forum’s activities for the upcoming year, the timeline of those activities, and preparations for the Forum’s launch. Participants highlighted the significance of the Forum in bridging the health system with other involved sectors to build closer multisectoral connections and collaboration. Participants also emphasized JPHF’s role in creating insights and actionable recommendations for policy and decision makers.

The JPHF was initiated by EMPHNET as part of its efforts to promote collaborative and multi-sectoral approaches towards sustainable public health development.
