GHD/EMPHNET Supports Training on Assessment of Public and Animal Health Laboratories in Iraq
In collaboration with GHD/EMPHNET, the Iraqi Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) conducted a training workshop at the Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL) in Baghdad between April 3 and 4, 2018. The workshop was held to familiarize participants with an assessment tool that will be used to evaluate the biosafety and biosecurity capacities within public and animal health laboratories in selected Iraqi governorates.
The workshop sessions were designed to train the participants on how to use the assessment tool, including how to properly conduct the assessment using the Epi Info software.
More specifically, its sessions covered different areas of biosafety and biosecurity, including occupational health; biological, chemical, electrical and laboratory safety; as well as risk assessment and mitigation.
Following this workshop, the assessment will be held in coordination with the CPHL and with support from GHD/EMPHNET. It will evaluate and map the hazard and risk management capacities in laboratories within selected Iraqi governorates. Participants in this assessment will include Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) graduates and representatives from public and animal health laboratories.
Following the assessment, a data analysis will be performed. This analysis will identify the gaps that each laboratory has, and these gaps will in turn be addressed by training the health professionals working in these laboratories.
