Dr. Sahar Samy received her medical degree from Egypt’s Ain Shams University’s Faculty of Medicine. She also holds a master’s degree in Public Health from Cairo University and a master’s degree in Pediatrics from Ain Shams University. She graduated from the Egypt of Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) in 2011 as well as the Egyptian Fellowship in Applied Epidemiology in 2012. From 2009 to 2011, she was the head of Egypt's Viral Hepatitis Prevention and Control Unit. From 2014 to the present, she served as the Director of Egypt FETP.
Dr. Samy was a key figure in the establishment of the Public Health Empowerment Program (PHEP) in Egypt. She also worked with the World Health Organization to develop an action plan for the International Health Regulations (IHR) for tools of indicators related to workforce development. In addition, she has been on the TEPHINET Advisory Scientific Committee since 2018. In 2020, she was elected as the new Chairperson of the EMPHNET Board of Directors and became the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Liaison to the TEPHINET Advisory Board.
