EMPHNET Reaffirms its Support for the People of Lebanon, Voicing its Concerns Against the Humanitarian Crisis they Bear

During these challenging times, brought on by the war inflicted upon Lebanon, we at the Eastern Mediterranean Public Health Network (EMPHNET) stand in full support of the Lebanese people. Today, Lebanon stands on the brink of a nationwide humanitarian catastrophe, and it is with our sense of duty that we amplify our voice in protest of this manmade emergency.

 

Despite the ongoing hardships, Lebanon has always demonstrated resilience. The country's health system, though strained by years of economic crises, has consistently shown the ability to withstand immense pressure. Its healthcare workers, alongside its people, have displayed extraordinary strength and perseverance in the face of adversity.

 

However, the current situation in Lebanon is catastrophic, entire families are being obliterated while homes are being destroyed, and civilians are left terrorized and displaced amidst the land invasion and large-scale causalities affecting the whole country. Death tolls are rising, and hospitals are receiving more cases of injuries. Despite its resilience, the health system in Lebanon needs support to maintain its ability to continue its service delivery. Today it is faced with the risk of severe shortages of staff and medical supplies, and the situation is only expected to get worse.

 

In these hard times, we call on the global community to stand firm in its support for Lebanon, and to put an end to its silence in the face of injustice. We call on the global community to raise its voice against war atrocities, and to implement international laws that safeguard human rights, and ensure the protection of civilians.

 

At EMPHNET, we reaffirm our support for the people of Lebanon, as this is our duty as a network of public health professionals holding the vision to achieve better health and wellbeing of communities.
